The following is a text version of the will:
Will of Henry Carter, 1837, Stokes County, NC
In the name of God Amen I Henry Carter of Stokes County and State of North
Carolina
being far advanced in years but in sound mind and memory thanks be to God for
the same,
and calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed
for all
men once to die, do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in
manner and
form, to wit, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Carter all the
property of
every description I now own during her natural life, and at her death to be
Equally
divided between John N. Carter, Nancy Payne, Mary Payne's children, Winston
Carter,
Anderson Carter and George W. Carter, my Sons and Daughters the above named and
their
heirs forever, and lastly I hereby make and appoint my sons Anderson &
George W. Carter
my whole and sole Executors to this my last will and Testament in witness
whereof. I
the said Henry Carter have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and
seal the
19th day of January 1837.

On 13 March 1829, Henry Carter resides in Stokes Co., and 67 years of age, made the following declaration to obtain the provisions made by act of Congress on 18 March 1818:
He was enlisted by Capt. John Marks in September 1779 in Albemarle Co., VA, for an 18 month term in the 2nd Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Haws. Capt. Marks resigned and his place was taken by Capt. John Anderson in the same Continental line unit. He was discharged at Salisbury, NC after serving the full 18 months by Maj. Jones. He was present at the battles of Guilford Courthouse, Camden, Eutaw Springs, and Ninety Six. His service is proved by the certificates of "two respected revolutionary soldiers" Isaac Bullin and Samuel Burchett.

"My occupation is a farmer without ability to pursue it...I have a wife and one daughter living with me, both unable to get their living. I had in my possession on the 18th of March 1818, and not now owned by me, a tract of land which I sold for $400.00 to my sons George W. Carter and Anderson & Winston Carter...George is in Illinois and Anderson in Virginia..."

Declaration of Henry Carter (age 67) -- Stokes Co., NC, Mar. 13, 1829 -- He enlisted in Sept. 1779 in Albemarle Co., VA, for 18 months under Capt. John Marks and Col. Haws, and later Capt. John Anderson, in 2d VA Regt., Continental Line. Discharged at Salisbury, NC, after 18 months. Present at battles of Guilford Courthouse, Camden, Eutaw Springs, and Ninety-Six.

On 19 April 1825, Henry Carter vouched for Isaac Bullin's Revolutionary War Pension application. Bulluin fought along with Carter at the battles of Guilford Courthouse, Eutaw Springs, and Ninety Six. In 1825 both men reside in Stokes County, North Carolina.
The Stokes Co. NC, Minutes of Superior Court, April 1825, C. R. # 090.311.2 state:
"Henry Carter Esquire, an old Revolutionary Soldier, a man of Respectability and varasity...made Oath that he Served a Greater part of the above time with the above named declarant Isaac Bullin...
